Badass Women at Any Age

May 19, 2020

Tracy Gray has always been able to turn a challenge into an opportunity for herself, and now she does that on a larger scale through The 22 Fund and nonprofit We Are Enough. She joins the show this week to talk about why it’s important to invest in women-owned businesses and how she created a model for women to educate and empower themselves no matter where they are at. Tracy believes when we invest in women, we change the world, and the time for that is now.

What You Will Hear in This Episode:

  • Tracy has an incredible resume and list of accomplishments, and it took her time to truly own how badass she was and be out there on the front lines unapologetically. Along with working in economic development at a nonprofit and for the former mayor of Los Angeles Antonio Villaraigosa, she also earned dual MBAs from Columbia University and U.C. Berkley.
  • As a woman of color, Tracy looks through the lens having a view of justice for others, and knowing that it is in our best interest as a world to be inclusive and give everyone a voice.
  • It is advantageous to diversify your areas of education and skill.
  • True badasses see obstacles as opportunities and flex their resiliency muscle quite often. While women and minority-owned businesses are used to getting told no so many times, they are innovative and creative about finding solutions.
  • It’s a smart financial decision to invest in women and people of color, and the trickle-down result creates more jobs and education from this demographic.
  • Tracy started nonprofit We Are Enough to educate women globally at every economic level and point them to products and platforms that help them make more money and change the world.

Quotes:

  • “I don’t work for anyone I can’t learn anything from.”
  • “When people won’t hire us, we start our own businesses.”
  • “If you are left out of the mainstream, you do it on your own.”
  • “The path to changing the world is through women.”
